Early Range Rover Classic, Power Steering Pipes. For reference only, the original part number was.

NRC5988, High Pressure Hose from pump to steering box. Please take a good look at the photographs to be sure that the hose assemblies match your own, especially the flares. I also have the other pipe listed, original part number 594795. I was looking for replacements for the two main power steering hoses and discovered that they are now obsolete like so many other items. I initially went along to all of my local hydraulic hose suppliers and all gave me the same reply,'If you can get the fittings, we could probably make something up for you, those fittings are obsolete, sir!

Undiscouraged, I started phoning around the major hose suppliers in the UK and basically still got nowhere. After about eight weeks of trying, I managed to get some fittings, but there was almost a nine month wait, as they were specially made in small batches, when the demand was high enough. I was of the opinion that other owners would be in the same position as me, trying to find replacements, so I have had a small batch of each hose manufactured to use up some of the fittings that I have and recuperate some of my costs!

At the moment, my rangie is fitted with some very expensive hoses! If the demand is sufficient, I will get some more made up and hopefully use up all the remaining fittings. The hose fitting thread, on the high pressure side from the pump is slightly shorter than the original connection, there just wasn't any way that I could get one with a longer thread. It is very likely that this will become thread bound and won't seal. In most cases you will need to get your friendly machine shop to shave 4 to 5mm from the pump face to enable the fitting to be tightened and sit firmly home.

There is plenty of meat on the pump, so this shouldn't be a problem. 4mm came off mine and is working just fine, with no leaks. I have included a picture of the modifications to my pump, as an example. This item is in the category "Vehicle Parts & Accessories\Car Parts & Accessories\Air & Fuel Delivery\Hoses, Lines & Pipes".
