1990 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC Vogue SE 3.9 V8, factory manual gearbox, new MOT
1990 RANGE ROVER'Vogue SE' 3.9L V8 petrol. 5 speed factory MANUAL gearbox. Overall this Classic is in great condition. I've been surrounded by RRC's over the years, and this one is a great example for body and chassis. It's very original apart from the exhaust and stereo. The usual rust spots are non-existent. The chassis, boot floor, rear arches, sills, scuttle, body mounts and inner wings are all sound. I've had a good poke around with a flat bladed screwdriver and cannot see anywhere that will require welding anytime soon. The areas mentioned have some surface rust but nothing more severe. This is a fantastic start for an enthusiast to perform a rolling restoration on it. The engine is mostly smooth, I say mostly because it sometimes has a slight hesitation as you apply the throttle from idle. It also intermittently doesn't want to rev over 4000rpm when hot. It can be slightly tricky to start from hot, but it does start. It uses about a pint of coolant every 100 miles or so, there is corrosion and a small leak to one corner of the radiator which may be the cause. It chucks out a bit of dark smoke from a cold start but that clears as it gets warm. The manual gearbox changes gear smoothly and has little noise.
High and Low work as they should. Recent work completed by Famous Four. Ocotber 2013, body-off welding to wheel arches, rear seatbelt points and inner wings. January 2015, full free-flow stainless steel exhaust fitted, including tubular manifolds (sounds fantastic). July 2017, replaced rear floor-pan and fuel tank.
December 2017, new HD battery, coil and HT leads. Windscreen de-laminating slightly, misty around the bottom and a few chips, but MoT passed (again).
Door pocket fallen off on passenger side (included in sale). Passenger rear door needs unlocking by hand from inside before opening (lock drops down on its own slightly). Passenger front door unlocks centrally but struggles to lock. Sun-roof leaked - so fuse was removed and edges sealed up with silicone by previous owner.Lower tailgate showing rust at the bottom. Upper aluminium tailgate in very good condition but to get it to lock both sides is slightly tricky. Rear wiper doesn't work. Head lining sagging with some poor attempts to fix it back up in the rear. The parcel shelf is the wrong colour (in black).
Outer window seals are cracked on the doors where the glass starts. Passenger front and rear electric windows don't work most of the time. Steering doesn't self-centre very well. Tyres will probably need replacing for the next MOT.
This is not the usual rotten example and is a great opportunity to acquire an appreciating rare manual classic. As with any classic Landrover from 1950, the important bit to get right is the chassis and body, everything else is a big boys mechano set and rather superfluous in my opinion.
